Final Fantasy 7 for PS help?

Ok, i've had this game for a while now and decided to play it some more. I remembered the last time i played and had a game save so i just put in the 3rd disc and started it up. When the menu screen came up, the continue button was grey, then turned white so i tried pressing X on it. Nothing happens. I really do not want to start a whole new game b/c i had EVERYTHING on it.
